San Francisco and Bay Area Weather

Weather in San Francisco and the Bay Area varies dramatically from mile to mile. In the city itself, expect cool mornings and evenings nearly always, often accompanied by fog. Midday temperatures can range from the 50's to the occasional 80's in summer. The fog burns off much of the time between 11am and 3pm; making it the best time of day for taking photographs.

The rest of the Bay Area tends to be warmer than the city itself. The East Bay is typically warmer than the Peninsula. San Jose also tends to be on the warmer end of the range. Daytime temperature averages are from 50 to 80 degrees, and into the 90's during the summer. Although even summer evenings can be cool.

Rainfall is greatest from November through March, with little to no rainfall the rest of the year. San Francisco gets an average of 4 inches of rain in December, San Jose gets a little less at 2.8 inches.

The Bay Area is packed full of micro-climates. Individual neigborhoods can have their own weather pattern. So depending upon where you are standing, your weather may differ.
