Caltrain Rail System
The rail system map is broken into six zones, with fares charged by the number of zones entered or crossed. Fares range from $2.50 to $11.50 one way. Day passes are available for round trip and multi-stop transportation. One way tickets must be used within four hours of purchase and must be purchased before boarding the train. Day passes allow unlimited travel throughout the day, within the zones purchased on the pass. 8-Ride tickets allow eight passages within the zones purchased and are valid for 60 days from the date of purchase. Tickets must be validated in a validation machine located on station platforms, before boarding the train. Validations are valid for four hours. Monthly passes are issued for each calendar month and allow unlimited travel on weekdays for the zones purchased and on weekends unlimited travel throughout all zones. Zone upgrade tickets allow the addition of one or more zones to an existing ticket and must be used only in conjunction with an existing ticket. Discount TicketsDiscounted tickets are available for Youths (17 & under), Seniors (65 & over), Disabled Persons, Medicare cardholders. Discounts are approximately 50% off of regular prices. Children 4 and under are free, one child per paid adult fare. Days and Hours of Operation Caltrain currently operates seven days a week, with reduced service on weekends. Weekday service start times vary by station, with the first and earliest stop occurring about 4:30am and the final and latest stop occurring about 1:30am. Consult timetables as your stop's first or last train may be significantly later or earlier. Trains run about every 20 minutes during peak hours. Weekend service runs about every hour from about 7:30am to 1:30am on Saturday and to 10:45pm on Sunday.
